The Horror of Using Japanese-English Textbooks

The Horror of Japanese-English Textbooks: Experience depressing and bizarrely written stories and crap English dialogue. Having taught for a year in Japan now I’ve had the joy of using many Japanese-English written textbooks.

This video is something of a rant / ventilation of a year’s pent-up frustration. It may be of particular interest to people who want to teach in Japan and want to see some of the incredible materials you’ll be using.

Rather than a full blown review of Japanese-English textbooks it’s more a short series of examples of things I’ve had to read out to a class of 40 students and has caused me to feel a mixture of bemusement and frustration at the content or way it’s conveyed.
